Joy L. (Cosner) Bennett departed this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at River Oaks Nursing Facility in Nutter Fort.
Joy was born on November 19, 1931, in Rosemont, WV, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Virginia (Shipplett) Cosner. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William J. Bennett. The couple celebrated 64 loving years together before Bill’s passing. Also, preceding her in death were her daughter, Pamela Nutter; two sons-in-law, Joe Nutter and Robert Harding; a grandson, Donald Ray Jeffers, Jr.; and her brother and sister-in-law, Ronny and Wilma Cosner.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Harding, Jacksonville, FL, William Bennett (Lisa), Clarksburg, and Jerry Bennett (Cindy), Fairmont. She had eight grandchildren: Patrick Jeffers (Missy), Michael Jeffers (Cindy), Joshua Jeffers (Adrienne), Jennifer Morton, Katie Reed (Jed), Todd Bennett (Chasity), Destiny Moore (Joe), and Megan Glass. She was loved by many great grandchildren as well as her special nieces and nephews.
Joy retired from Nutter Fort Foodland, where she worked in the Deli Department. She was a past member of the Congregation Missionary Church and in later years made her spiritual home at Jewel City Church in Shinnston.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of River Oaks and Amedysis Hospice, words cannot express the wonderful care given to our mother for the past two and a half years. You all will always be special to us.
The family will receive friends at Jewel City Church, 511 Jewel City Blvd., Meadowbrook, from 4-7pm, Monday where funeral services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, June 17th, with Pastor Robert L. Shingleton officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Philippi.
