Kathryn Ann DeMary, 84, of Shinnston passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Maplewood Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family.  She was born October 9, 1940, in East View, the daughter of the late John and Teresa Marie Talerico Beto. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John David DeMary, whom she married January 12, 1963.

She is survived by two sons, John M. DeMary, Waldorf, MD, and Mark D. DeMary and his wife Lori of Fairmont, WV; three grandsons, Ryan DeMary, Fairmont, Alex DeMary, Clarksburg, and Anthony DeMary and his fiancé Ally Ulrich, Clarksburg; three granddaughters, Grace DeMary, Fairmont, Kathryn E. DeMary, Charlotte, NC, and Sophia DeMary, Fairmont; her nieces and nephews, Michael Beto and life partner Joe Ritacco, Morgantown, Michele Beto, Bridgeport, John and Sheena Beto, Mt. Clare, Jodi Paugh, Clarksburg, Anne and John Aunins, Newton, MA, and Jim Hammons, Cambridge, MA.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Franklin Beto and his wife Mary Jo Beto; her sisters-in law,  Delores B. Tartell and her husband Anthony David Tartell, and Norma Jean Hammons and her husband, James Harvey Hammons.

Kathryn graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in 1959 and her professional career spanned over 55 years. She was previously employed as a telephone operator with The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (C&P) from 1959 to 1967; co-owned Lumberport Pharmacy from 1967-1973; co-owned DeMary Pharmacy; in Shinnston from 1968 to 1991; co-owned DeMary Sixth Street Pharmacy (partnership with sons) from 1988 to 1991; Financial Officer for DeMary Rentals until retirement in 2023.

As a lifelong Shinnston resident, Kathryn dedicated her life to her community through her service work. She was able to relate to her neighbors and community members she served including Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football, Lincoln High School, and The Lord’s Pantry. She always made a sincere effort to go the extra mile and welcome everyone she interacted to ensure they felt comfortable and at home.

Kathryn was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was an extremely active parishioner. She served on the Altar Society, Member of the Parish Council; Coordinated the world-famous St. Ann’s Spaghetti Dinners, in addition to the Pita piata and fritti sales.

In addition to her lifelong dedication to the community, Kathryn’s passion was her family and was known by all as “Nunnie.” In addition to her devotion to cooking (Mangia, mangia), for everyone, she loved to travel, with her favorite place being Florence, Italy. She was an avid Notre Dame Football and WVU sports fan.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Haeley Harman and Staff, Mon General Hospital, the CNAs and Nurses of Maplewood Healthcare Center, and Dr. Richard Vasicek and the Staff of WV Medicine Hospice.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston from 1-8 PM, Sunday. Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM Sunday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Shinnston at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 17, 2025, with Father Akila Rodrigo T.O.R. as Celebrant and Father Deepu Joseph as Concelebrant and assisted by Deacon David Lester. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
