ELKINS, West Virginia – After the Salem women’s soccer team took on the Davis and Elkins Senators, the Salem men’s team did the very same for a evening doubleheader with the Senators, The Tigers found themselves in a tightly contested game, and ended up with taking home a 1-1 draw from Elkins.
For the first half, both teams struggled to find their footing offensively as there were only 5 shots between the two teams in the entire half. Salem’s defensive backline held firm throughout the period, and the game went into the halftime break with a 0-0 gridlock.
Salem found their offensive chances in the second half, and Mauricio Aguilar Renovales made the most of one of them with a goal in the 50th minute. With the 1-0 advantage, the pressure was on to hold fast throughout the remainder of the match to pull out the win. Unfortunately, the Senators found an 88th minute equalizer that set the game at 1-1. Salem attempted a late rally, but with just a few moments left in the game, it simply was not enough time for the Tigers. The game therefore concluded with a 1-1 draw between the Tigers and Senators.
While the Tigers certainly wanted to pull out the win, there were some great areas of growth for Salem. Mauricio Aguilar Renovales led the way with the lone Salem goal and 2 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Ryan Schneider added 4 saves between the posts for the Tigers.
Salem men’s soccer will have a brief hiatus this weekend, but will return with a home contest against the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Wednesday, October 4th at 8 PM at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
