Shinnston Cub Scouts picked up food donations from local households on Friday to distribute to families in need.
“We have been doing several community service projects lately, but this one and feeding the community at Thanksgiving are their favorites,” said Trish Kellar-Moore, committee chair. “Several distributed packed meals then too. They love giving back and knowing that they are making a difference and helping those that need it.”
Scouts had collected 927 items as of 6 p.m. Friday, and they expected to receive more donations at the next meeting. Kellar-Moore said scouts had completed the service project annually since 2017.
A new all-girls pack of Cub Scouts, which is working on its charter, also participated. She said six boys and seven girls participated.
“They do all of the same activities as the boys’ group from learning leadership to camping and shooting sports,” Kellar-Moore said.
