Mary Mae Drummond Book, 86, of Shinnston passed away peacefully Monday, November 3, 2025, at Wishing Well Senior Living Community in Fairmont after an extended illness.  She was born November 2, 1939 a daughter of the late James and Willia Drummond.

She is survived by a step-son, Donald “little Buzzy” Book, Fairmont; granddaughters, Haylen Book and Gracie Book, both of Shinnston; Honorary granddaughter, Darian “Hope” Darway, Shinnston; daughter-in-law, Amy Cummings, Haywood; Cousin, Connie Perkins, Gypsy; her brother and sister in laws, Rose Marie Harrison and husband, Paul, Springfield, VA, Patty Edwards and husband, Vernon, Hoschton, GA, David Book and wife Renee, Shinnston; many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Preceding her in death was her devoted,  husband of 20+ years, Donald “Buzzy” Book; and many special friends and family.

Mary Mae was a lifelong Shinnston resident and graduated from Shinnston High School in 1957.  She went to work right after school at the Telephone company in Shinnston where she retired after 40 Years of service. She was a member of The Quota Club where she served the community empowering woman, children, the deaf, and hard-of-hearing, and people with speech difficulties. She was Catholic by faith and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Shinnston.

Mary Mae found her greatest happiness with family and friends, sharing laughter and stories. She enjoyed crafting and decorating, and took great joy in making things beautiful around her.  She spent many summers at the Shinnston pool with her granddaughters, and loved a shopping spree. She will always be remembered as her polished self – dressed to impress with a fresh manicure in her signature red color.

Mary’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wishing Well Assisted living for the wonderful care, comfort, and compassion shown to her during her stay. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Per her request, she will be cremated and there will be no viewing. Family will receive guests for a celebration of life at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St., Shinnston Sunday, November 9th from 5:00 to 7:00.
