Washington, D.C. – Congressman Riley M. Moore released the following statement after the House voted to end the 43-day Schumer Shutdown. The House passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 – Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act 2026 that extends funding for most agencies until January 30th, 2026. The measure also includes three full-year funding bills, the Legislative Branch, Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bills.

The legislation also includes key national security provisions written by Congressman Moore, including language prohibiting the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Legislative Branch from purchasing compromised technology tied to the Chinese Communist Party.

Congressman Riley M. Moore issued the following statement:

“The Schumer Shutdown is finally over after the Democrats held the American people hostage for 43 days. Republicans held the line and did not cave to the Democrats’ insane $1.5 Trillion wishlist, including giving healthcare benefits to illegal immigrants. We can now get back to work enacting the America First agenda. I’m also grateful to Chairman Cole for including my language to protect our national security by preventing the VA and Legislative Branch from purchasing harmful technology tied to the Chinese Communist Party.”

Major Investments Secured for West Virginia:

The legislation not only reopens the federal government, restoring pay for workers and providing stability for families, but also includes major local investments in West Virginia, championed by Congressman Riley M. Moore:

  • $712,500 for a new Preston County Senior Center. The center has vastly outgrown its current facility, and the new location will expand access to vital services for thousands of seniors—including in-home care, meal delivery, and transportation to medical appointments. This investment will strengthen community care and improve quality of life for senior West Virginians.
  • $1,668,750 for the construction of a new Barbour County Ambulance Authority Station. The new facility will enhance emergency response capabilities, expand public safety training programs, and serve as an emergency shelter and distribution site in the event of a natural disaster. This project will ensure first responders have the resources they need to keep West Virginians safe.

Congressman Moore’s statement on how these projects are crucial to West Virginia’s infrastructure and constituents:

“These are the kinds of investments that matter—projects that save lives, care for our most vulnerable, and strengthen our communities. By ending the Schumer shutdown and passing this bill, we’re putting West Virginia first and delivering real results for the people of the Second District.

West Virginians work hard and expect their government to do the same. I’ll continue fighting for solutions that strengthen our economy, and deliver for the great people of the Mountain State.”
