Scrapbooks belonging to former Shinnston News Editor James M. Currey
have recently been donated to the Bice-Ferguson Museum. If you had a
parent or grandparent at Shinnston High School in the mid-forties, you
need to come and see this snapshot of life at SHS at the time.
What beautiful SHS girl won the title of “Miss Victory” for the county Armistice
Day Parade?
Where did the students go in the old jalopy during Senior Skip Day?
Who attended the Roman Banquet dressed in their Mom’s best bedsheet?
These questions and more can be answered by visiting the
Museum at 400 Bridge Street, Thursday through Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00
pm through the month of October.
Some “Tiny Treasures” have been added to the collection at the Museum.
A couple of these pieces were give-aways from long-ago businesses to
advertise their wares.
Of particular interest is a dance card from 1896 for a
program held at the Opera House. Inside the type of dances are listed with
a place to write down to whom you promised that dance.
Finally, a leaf-shaped metal ashtray is a token from the City’s Centennial in 1952. The
City’s quartosept centennial will be coming up soon!
These items and much more can be viewed at the Bice-Ferguson Memorial Museum at 400 Pike Street, Thursday – Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm until the end of October.
