St. Mary’s Grade School, in conjunction with the City of Clarksburg and the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the school’s new STREAM Room. This room will allow students a more hands-on learning opportunity that will connect classroom teachings with real life applications. The STREAM curriculum is comprised of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics.
The room will be supplied with a full kitchen area with sink, stove, microwave, cabinetry, and countertops. The indoor Greenspace will be equipped with a hydroponics gardening system with LED lights to begin the starter plants for the outdoor Geodesic Greenhouse. The Creative Design Center will include a 3D printer, heat/transfer press, and vinyl cutter, as well as a sewing station.
The renovations were funded with grants from WV Catholic Schools, Dominion Foundation, and WV Division of Culture & History. Gifts were also received from an anonymous donor, Shaffer Madia Law, and Glen & Michelle Palmer donated the kitchen appliances.
Just under $10,000 is still needed to finish paying for the renovations and to properly equip the kitchen. If you would like to make a gift to the project, please contact St. Mary’s Grade School at 304-622-9831.
