Norma Mae Thompson, 96, of Shinnston, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at River Oaks Healthcare Center. She was born on October 12, 1927 in Peora to the late Roy Blare and Hattie (Jett) Blare.
She had worked as a seamstress for Maidenform, State Foods and Owens-Illinois. Norma was a member of Peora United Methodist Church and United Methodist Church in Shinnston and an honorary member of the fire department. Norma enjoyed cooking, sewing and working in her yard.
She is survived by one son: John Thompson and his wife Charlotte of Shinnston; one daughter, Cheryl Davis and husband Edward “Bubby” of Spring Lake, NC; two grandsons: Trevor Matthews and wife Becky of NC and Trey Matthews of NC; five granddaughters: Hope Onesti and husband Nick of FL, Carrie Ford of Clarksburg, Stephanie Lucas and husband Kris of Bridgeport, Maria Sutor and husband Kit of SC and Mindy Huffman and husband Aaron of MO; eleven great grandchildren; three brothers: Lindsey Blare and wife Viola of Peora, Robert “Bob” Blare and wife Judy of Ravenswood and Clifford Blare and wife Sara of Vancouver, WA; two sisters: Jean Zirkle of KY and Emma Deem and husband Darrell of AZ as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Patrick Thompson; one son, Jim Thompson; two sisters: Mary Blare and Madeline Blare; three brothers: Lewis Junior Blare, Challens Blare and Earl Blare and one grandson, Brandon Ford.
The family would like to thank: Kristen Armistead, Nicole Reed, Natalie Profit, Vanessa Lance, Ariston Wilson, Justin Gribble, Brandy Crites and Debbie Mayle of River Oaks and Amedisys nurses: Alissa Buffy and Elizabeth Meade for the care provided to Norma.
Family and friends will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston, on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 10:00am until time of service, 2:00pm with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
