Betty Waddy, Progressive Women’s Association president has announced that the PWA will be sponsoring a sign language class for the community. The free adult language sign class will start on September 11 and run through October16.
In order to accommodate local businesses, the classes will be held each Wednesday at noon. The PWA will provide a free light lunch for each participant prior to the class. It is the mission of the PWA to provide free services to the members of our community. Our goal is to enlist local businesses to send one or two representatives from their office to attend this class. The atmosphere in the offices will be helpful to those in need of sign language services. Rosalyn Queen , project chair encourages all business leaders to take advantage of this free service by allowing two of their employees to attend these classes.
The classes will be held at the Uptown Event Center at 305 Washington Avenue. Janet St. Martin , an experienced instructor will guide participants through the fundamentals of sign language. Each student will receive a book to use as a guide both during class and in the future. “We must remember that learning to sign is like learning any language, it will become easier with practice and patience,” says Queen.
At the conclusion of the classes each participant will receive a certificate. Registration is required as there is limited space to this program. In order to register please call (304) 624- 6881, Tuesday thru Friday from nine to four. Queen urges those interested to register immediately so as not to miss this opportunity to learn a valuable skill that will be most helpful to our community.
