BLOOMSBURG, PA- Both the men’s and women’s tennis team traveled to Pennsylvania this past weekend to partake in the ITA Tournament hosted by the Huskies of Bloomsburg University.
Men’s Open Singles:
Pablo Noya was the first match of the day, competing against Hugo Lena of Fairmont State University. Noya dropped the match against Lena in two sets losing 6-0 and 6-1.
Daniel Paipa was up next as he took on Juan Carlos Hernandez Briones from Mercyhurst University. Paipa made quick work of Hernandez Briones, taking him down in two sets winning 6-2 and 6-3. Paipa would advance into the round of 32 where he would then be eliminated by Jowan Rawson from the University of Charleston. Rawson won in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2.
Pablo Guillen was the last to play in Men’s Open Singles as he squared off against Kihiro Kawasawa who was representing West Virginia Wesleyan College. The match was tightly contested, but in the end it was Kawasawa who came away with the win in two sets 6-4 and 6-3.
Men’s Open Doubles:
Max Muller teamed up with Alessandro Fedeli for the round of 32 as they took on Gianluca Gerndt and Ricardo Starosta from West Virginia Wesleyan College. The two Tigers fought hard in a back and forth set before eventually dropping the set 6-4 and being eliminated.
Women’s Open Singles:
Lina Ziana opened up the action for the Tigers against Riva Hondiashvilla from the University of Charleston. Hondiashvilla proved to be too much as she went on to win the match in two sets 6-0 and 6-0.
Daria Korsakava was the only other representative of the Tigers in the Women’s Open Singles as she was set to face off against Sara Martinez in the opening round. Korsakava dropped the match against her in two sets losing 6-4 and 6-0.
Women’s Open Doubles:
The only Tiger duo in action for the Women’s Doubles was the pairing of Kylie Diaz and Melanie Coric. They would face off against Chavana Sreenath and Erin Laubscher from Davis and Elkins College. The Tigers were outmatched in this one dropping the match 6-0.
