Washington, D.C. – Earlier today, the House of Representatives passed S. 331 – the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently classifies fentanyl and fentanyl related substances as Schedule 1 under the Controlled Substances Act. Congressman Riley M. Moore voted “Yes” on the legislation.

The House had previously passed a similar version of the bill, with Congressman Moore’s support, in February.

“Fentanyl has claimed thousands of lives in West Virginia, and the crisis continues to present major challenges for officials on the ground,” said Congressman Moore. “The HALT Fentanyl Act will close a deadly loophole in existing law, and in turn, our justice system will be empowered to aggressively prosecute those who are responsible for poisoning our communities. I’m proud to have voted “Yes” today, and will continue to fight for policies that reduce overdose deaths and help those struggling with addiction.”
