Robert Stephen “Bob” Thomas, 79, of Shinnston, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home. He was born February 14, 1946, in Shinnston, a son of the late Santford and Genevieve Robey Thomas.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Judith Irene Stalnaker Thomas, who died on April 2, 2021.
He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Parker of Shinnston; his cherished grandson, Clint Parker of Shinnston; his brother, David Thomas and his wife Donna of Lumberport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlene Childers; Shirley Lilley; Debbie Ashcraft; Chuck Stalnaker; Penny Cochran; and Mike Stalnaker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue Gooden and Phyllis Newbrough; and his brothers, Ed and Ted Scritchfield.
Bob was best known in the Shinnston community for his many years as a schoolteacher. Following his retirement, he was employed with Black Diamond Security. Bob enjoyed watching sports, especially the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also great at trivia and loved to eat. His family will always remember his cut-throat strategies while playing Monopoly and backyard croquet.
Bob was a first-rate grandfather. He loved his grandson, Clint, and supported him in all his activities.
Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Thursday from 2-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 27th, at 11:00am with Pastor Duane Bartrug officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
