The members of the Shinn’s Run CEOS of Shinnston/Bridgeport hosted a town tea on August 14 at Elison Independent and Assisted Living of Maplewood in Bridgeport. With the help of Elison staff, residents were treated to fun, food, and fellowship with club members and guests from the community.
The club had two main intentions: introduce the organization and give a better insight into West Virginia’s beloved state song, “Country Roads”.
Shinn’s Run CEOS President Pat Rummel opened the hour by welcoming staff, residents, state and county representatives, and guests. Tea cakes, fruit cups, and drinks were served while Shy Burkhammer, Elison’s Lifestyle Director, welcomed all to Elison’s facility.
John Wickline shared a PowerPoint discussing the origins, history, and impact of the song “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. As the WVU Extension Program Assistant for the Family & Community Development unit, he showcased his presentation to other CEOS clubs state-wide.
The club’s “Take Me Home Town Tea” at Elison was his 14th presentation this year.
Nancy Weaver, Shinn’s Run CEOS member, ended the event by gifting John Wickline with event memorabilia and a certificate of appreciation. The club shared how much they valued his dedication to the organization and its members.
Door prizes were awarded to ticket holders, followed by group photos.
About 40 guests were in attendance. A special thank you to our WVU Extension state representatives John Wickline and Jason Burnside, and CEOS county officers; Carolyn Romine, President; and Delores Wilson, Vice President. We appreciate 90 Marketing’s contributions, event materials, and door prize donations.
