In honor of CEOS Week, May 19 – 24, 2024, the Shinns Run CEOS (Community Educational Outreach Service) Club of Shinnston/Bridgeport would like to announce its ongoing involvement in its communities.
On May 20th, the Shinns Run CEOS will participate in the Harrison County Cultural Arts Show. The club will be serving refreshments during the meeting and some members will be entering art items they made during this past year. Each member also collected toiletry items to donate to the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Hospital and supplies for Energy Express. The items collected will be delivered during this meeting.
In addition to honoring CEOS week, the club would like to announce their upcoming TOWN TEA and membership drive. This event will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 1:00 pm, upstairs in the “Maple Leaf Room” at Elison Independent & Assisted Living of Maplewood in Bridgeport. Community members are encouraged to fellowship with club members, Elison residents, and its wonderful staff members. Tea and treats will be provided. The WV Extension Services county representative and club members will be available to answer questions. More information will be posted soon at facebook.com/90mmMarketing and the Harrison County CEOS member group on facebook.
To continue last year’s success in service and community, the members of Shinns Run would like to share their year-to-date activities.
- FEBRUARY: Club members received the County Blue Book and a copy of the lessons. Each member selected a lesson and scheduled a time to present. Members then discussed new community project ideas for the new year.
- April Lanham read a poem she composed to submit for the 2024 WVCEOS Poetry Writing Contest. After taking a year off, she hopes to regain the county title.
- Club members handed out “GIFTS OF LOVE” to assisted living residents at Elison. Packets included candy, handmade crocheted hearts, and a “Thinking of You” card. Gifts were assembled during the monthly meeting.
- MARCH: County chair members mentioned they would like to update the organization’s name to help recruit new members; club members were asked to think up a few ideas.
- To help with cognitive awareness, the purposeful reading chair planned to incorporate a Golden Girls TV show-themed “MAD LIBS” activity during this portion of each meeting.
- APRIL: Members were reminded of the upcoming donation drives and discussed the scheduled tea/membership drive in August. The club was presented with more information regarding the organization’s name change. The club agreed it would help make it easier to market our organization. Recommendations were made and submitted.
- MAY: For Teacher Appreciation Week, members voted to donate $100 for art supplies to Mr. Josh Toothman, the art teacher at South Harrison Schools. Mr. Toothman stated that the supplies he purchased last year helped him to enhance his art program. Due to the great response, the club chose to re-sponsor him in 2024. A small presentation was made on Wednesday, May 15.
