The West Virginia Youth Wrestling Association held their state tournament at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center on Feb. 26 and 27. Nick Glaspell of Shinnston, wrestling for the Clarksburg Panthers, took first place in the 12 and under 100-lb. division. His mother, Nickii Glaspell, said she believes Nick is the first kid of Shinnston to win the youth state championship.
Several other Shinnston kids also placed. River Miker took second place in the 8 and under, 70-lb. division; Jace Poe took third place in the 10 and under, 55-lb. division; and Silas Raines took sixth place in the 10 and under, 85-lb. division. Miker and Poe also wrestle for the Panthers, while Raines wrestles for Bridgeport.
