The Shinnston seniors met on Friday, May 5, 2017. Janet called the meeting to order. We said our pledge to the flag and sang the national anthem. Navonda had our devotions. She read The Book You’re Writing by Winston K. Pendleton (The Vendor – Jan. 4, 2017.) It gave us some food for thought.
On our prayer list for this week are the following: Jo’s daughter, Connie Perkins, Nancy D., Brenda Nestor, Gail Butcher, Libby’s grandniece Sharon, Karen Flanigan, Judy Knoble, Tom Claypoole, Tom Greaver, our president, congress, leaders the whole world over, family, friends and all others on our previous lists.
Announcements: Don’t forget about eating at the Shinnston Nutrition Center May 17th and 25th. Sign up. You should be there by 11 am and no later than 11:15 am. Debbie Glaspell was back from the Clarksburg center to help with the program for low income nutrition for people 60 years of age and older (I had the age wrong last week). Sorry about that. You also do not have to be a member of the seniors. There are income guidelines to follow: 1 in household – $1,287.00; 2 in household – $1736.00 per month…if you qualify you will receive a box of food to help you through the month. Call Debbie at (304) 871-6513 or stop in at the Clarksburg Senior Center for information.
Louie and Elaine Veltri celebrated their anniversary – 28yrs. We sang Happy Anniversary to them and they received a bud vase of carnations. We received nut cups, small loaves of banana bread, small muffin size pudding cakes, and small chocolates. Also this coming week will be our Mother’s day luncheon.
Tom G. asked the blessing for our meal. For pot luck we did all right. Sliced ham and vegetable soup along with all the other wonderful dishes from the members, made a delightful meal. The kitchen crew was Margaret, Libby, and Nancy D. Good job ladies! Next week we will have homemade lasagna and pies baked by Janet, Libby, Mary and Deloris. (Lord willing)
Our 50/50 drawing winner was Billie A.; guess jar – Sylvia D.; bingo coverall winner – Libby B. and 1st door prize for the second time in a row was Donna Yelich. Good luck next week.
Janet Dotson, Billie Allen, Sylvia Duckworth, Steve and Joyce Miker, Donna Yelich, Louie and Elaine Veltri, Nancy Davis, Nannette Hixon, Libby Butcher, Deloris Minor, Margaret Yost, Vivian Brown, David Greaver, Stanley McIntire, Tom Greaver, Jean Hornick, Paul Shaver, Mary Stutler, Joan Whiteman, William and Navonda Hayhurst, Pauline Reed and Enith Wright were the members attending.
Thought for the week – in honor of Mother’s Day – Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Hope you remembered your mom on Mother’s Day.
