The Shinnston Senior Citizens met on Friday, January 20, 2017 for their weekly meeting.
Our president called the meeting to order. We sang our national anthem and pledged allegiance to the flag. Once again, Navonda had our devotional. Our verse for the week was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” He gives us the strength to get through each and every minute of every day. Our prayer list consists of many of our members who are down with health problems and other concerns – Brenda Nestor, Jo Smith, Tom and Shirley Greaver, Pauline Reed, Mary Stutler, Janet Dotson, Karen Flanigan, and Virginia Minor, Connie’s cousin, Judy L. (Didn’t get the last name but God knows), Kim Andrick, Bernard Jones, all the others on previous lists, our president and country, leaders here and abroad, and family and friends. We need to uphold each other in prayer!
Reminder announcements were about the AARP tax assistance available for seniors; to schedule an appointment phone (304) 624-0903. Also we are accepting memberships for the year 2017. Come on Fridays or call Janet Dotson to get you membership –cost is $8.00 for the year.
New business: Margaret brought a motion before the membership to donate $200 to the legion post #31 to help pay for a new cooler. The motion passed with a yes vote. Also remember winter rules for our meetings … No School – No Meeting. If school has a delay then we have meetings. Use your good judgment when the weather is nasty. January is almost over which means spring is one more month closer. YEAH!!
Tom asked the blessing for our lunch. We had chicken, gravy, and mashed potatoes along with a host of wonderful food made by our members. It was really good. Margaret and Navonda were the volunteers in the kitchen; next week we need volunteers. Billie, Navonda and Libby are responsible for the cakes.
Once again Margaret Yost won the coverall bingo winner (Two weeks in a row – talk about luck). Richard Murray won the 50/50 drawing and Sylvia and Elaine were the lucky ladies of the guess jars. The first door prize winner was Joan Whiteman. We are all winners because we have a good time doing this.
The members attending this week were Janet Dotson, Billie Allen, Sylvia Duckworth, Steve and Joyce Miker, Connie Perkins, Donna Yelich, Louis and Elaine Veltri, Nancy Davis, Nannette Hixon, Libby Butcher, Deloris Minor, Margaret Yost, Vivian Brown, Tom Greaver, Stanley McIntire, Jean Hornick, Paul Shaver, Joan Whiteman, William and Navonda Hayhurst, Enith Wright, Judy Asel and Richard Murray.
With everything that went on in our country this past week, I leave you with this thought of the day and everyday – John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Our government cannot give you peace in your heart and body, only God. See you next week … Lord willing.
