The Shinnston Senior Citizens met again Friday, March 31, 2017 at the American Legion building. Janet called the meeting to order. We stood and said the pledge to our flag and sang the national anthem. Mary S. had our devotions for us.
On our prayer list for this week are the following – Brenda Nestor, Elaine Veltri, Gail Butcher (Libby’s husband), Libby’s son and sister, Judi Loss, Pauline Reed, Tom Claypoole, all others on all our previous lists, our president, congress and country.
We had no new or old business. We are having our Easter luncheon April 14th (Good Friday). I believe we are having ham with all the trimmings. If you signed up for the treat buckets, we will need 30 individual wrapped treats to fill them up. You can bring fruit, vegetables, small canned or individual things, candy, and cookies – whatever you think someone would like. Just make sure you have 27 to 30 individual things. We also had 2 birthdays for the month. Bette received a candy bar and Billie A. received a rose, card, small cake and a candy bar…you have to be a certain age to receive all that. We also sang Happy Birthday. I believe they survived that.
After our bingo games and the business session, we were ready for lunch. Tom G. asked the blessing over the food. We had fish, hushpuppies, fries, cole slaw and many other covered dishes. If you went away hungry, it was your fault. The kitchen crew was Mary S., Navonda and Nancy D. Next week’s crew will be volunteers, but the fare will be soup beans and cornbread. Our cake bakers will be Tom, Jean and Mary. Thanks guys; we appreciate all you do for us.
Our bingo coverall winner this week was Tom Greaver. Karen F. won the 50/50 drawing – the second week in a row. Guess jars winners were Janet, Paul, and Karen F. Last, but not least, the 1st door prize winner was Stanley. Way to go guys!
Members attending were Janet Dotson, Billie Allen, Sylvia Duckworth, Donna Yelich, Nancy Davis, Nannette Hixon, Deloris Minor, Tom Greaver, Stanley McIntire, Jo Smith, Jean Hornick, Paul Shaver, Mary Stutler, Joan Whiteman, Karen Flanigan, William and Navonda Hayhurst, Enith Wright, and Bette Baughman.
Thought for the week – “A chicken is the only thing that can lie around and produce.” John Goetsch. Do not be lazy in the work place, the church or the home front. “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16. Use your time wisely for the Lord. Remember he died for you. See you next week.
