West Virginia will be 154 years old on June 20, 2017, and Shinnston will be celebrating with a ‘Happy Birthday, West Virginia’ celebration at the Bice-Ferguson Museum, sponsored by the Museum and the Shinnston Woman’s Club.
West Virginia is one of very few states to celebrate their admission into the Union. The Mountain State refers to its special day as ‘West Virginia Day’ while others refer to their state holiday as ‘Admission Day’ or ‘Statehood Day’.
From 2:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. cake, courtesy of the Museum, and ice cream, courtesy of the Woman’s Club, will be served in the Bice-Ferguson Conference Room. The public is encouraged to stop in for the festivities.
