This golf season starts off with a trip to the Clarksburg Country Club. Tradition comes to mind when you mention this exceptional club. CCC was designed in 1912 as a nine hole tract; it grew in every way imabginable and was home of Sam Snead’s 10th WV PGA Championship in 1966.
Today, CCC has something for everyone. Director of Golf, Doug Comer, explained “besides having a championship caliber golf course, we have a full-sized swimming area, and a clubhouse with full service food and beverage that is capable of catering any size party. There are also plans in place to develop two pickleball courts”
CCC is perfectly located and it is a diamond in the rough. Most of the membership have been repeat customers for years and that is for good reason, according to Comer, who said “we have been a little hidden gem here. It feels like you are out in a country setting, but you are less than five miles from downtown Clarksburg. Members love that they have a short drive, which allows more time to play golf!”
The good news for golf enthusiasts is that they can play this impressive course on most days without being a member. “While the club is mostly private, we do allow the public to play on most days. We love to share the club with non-members. Sundays are saved for the membership, as we rarely allow outside play that is unaccompanied.”
Conner has been around the game for a long time and his experience proves wise when he talks about the course. “Based on the scorecard, the course doesn’t look very long, but it has some teeth. On the front side, there are two long par threes that challenge all local golfers. The backside is difficult from the start with number 10 being one of the toughest in the area. Accuracy is a must if you want to play here.”
There are multiple tee boxes, which provide a challenging round for all skill levels. There are also several risk versus reward opportunities, which allow for a chance to go low if you want to roll the dice. You can have it all for a steal of a deal.
“Our prices are very competitive,” mentioned Comer, who added “we cater to the younger families, as well as the senior population.
Weather permitting, the course is open all season long and many do take advantage of year round golf. You have to get to CCC as soon as possible, because I have a feeling that you will want to get back there soon after for another visit!
