The Bottom Line

Being around sports for a few years I’ve grown to understand what it takes to be successful. I’ve seen great teams loose and I’ve seen average teams win. Some of the best individual players have put up impressive stats but never capture the ultimate prize. When you look at numbers on paper they make all of the sense in the world, but many times they don’t equate to a championship.
In life we all have goals for ourselves and our families. Sometimes those goals are attained easily and other times it seems as if they might never be garnered. There are times when our choices keep us from getting to where we want to be. It could be a lack of commitment or effort that derails our plans. Other times it could be circumstances beyond our control that take our plans and destroy them in the blink of an eye, leaving us in an extremely vulnerable position.
As many of you know my family suffered a devastating setback on December 12th, 2015 when our house was lost to a fire. It completely turned our lives upside down, taking what we grew to know as normal and flipping it upside down. It has been nearly eight months, a pair of moves and constant adjustments to just function on a daily basis.
With all of the highs and lows, there have been a pair of constants that have lifted us over all of the obstacles and have brought us through the fire. The first is God who has blessed us on so many levels. He spared our lives that morning and has continued to bless us each and every day. He provides what we need and without him we would be lost.
The second has been the continued support of so many people that we are blessed to call friends. Without them this entire process would have been harder to endure. I consider them our team, those that stepped up for us when we needed it the most. Our family here at the Shinnston News and Harrison County Journal, our friends at McAtee Plumbing, Heating, and Air and all of our friends and family throughout the country.
I’ve said for years how fortunate I have been to work here and the support that I have received from our staff reconfirms my thoughts and makes me proud to be a small part of this paper.
McAtee Plumbing, Heating and Air came to our aid days after the fire. Their generosity proved to me that there are businesses that care about their community and those that live in it!
Family, friends, and neighbors came together to help in so many ways, including prayers and words of encouragement that have meant so much.
It’s been a total team effort that has brought us to just weeks away from getting into our home once again. To each and every one of you that have helped us in one form or another, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you as my teammates we would have never been able to reach our goal. May God Bless you as much as you have blessed me and my family!
