ELKINS, WV- Last night the Tigers traveled to the home court of Davis & Elkins College to try and extend their three game win streak in enemy territory. The Tigers entered the game with a record of 3-6 having won their last three games, and the Senators came in with a record of 0-11 as they looked to get their first win of the season.
As set number one began the Senators grabbed an early lead at 5-2. After that Salem chipped away at that lead, making slow progress to close the gap between the two squads and get it to 13-12, Salem’s advantage. The Senators then proceeded to score six unanswered points to grab a commanding 18-13 lead. Salem fought back hard, ending the set on a 10-7 run, but it was not enough. They dropped the first set 25-23.
The Senators tried to replicate what worked for them last set, once again taking control early with a 5-2 lead. Just like the previous set, Davis & Elkins extended that early advantage into a big lead by scoring five straight to go up 10-3. The rest of the match was even, with teams trading two point runs back and forth with one another. In the end the early advantage proved to be the difference maker as once again Salem fell, this time 25-20.
Set number three came and the Senators attacked like a shark when it smells blood in the water. They got up 7-2 early on the Tigers and never looked back. Davis & Elkins ran away with the final set, securing a win 25-14 to send the Tigers home packing.
Salem is back in action on Tuesday, September 26th as they travel to Frostburg, Maryland to take on Frostburg State University (7-7) at 7pm.
