Bridgeport, WV—WVU Medicine United Hospital Center begins construction on
Monday, June 17, making improvements to the Emergency Department (ED) waiting
area. Directional signage will greet the public entering the ED from the parking lot and
guide patients to an alternate waiting room.
“We are excited to start this project, as this will ultimately allow UHC to better serve our
patients through improved space utilization,” said John Backus, MSN, RN, MBA, Clinical
Director of Emergency Services. “We want our patients to feel comfortable from the
moment they enter our ED, and this new remodel will do just that by having a calming
effect.”
Renovation of the existing ED waiting area will include aesthetic improvements to
lighting, ceiling, flooring, walls, fixtures, and restrooms. New features will include
charging stations and seating areas with partitions for more privacy.
“The waiting area refresh will take approximately two weeks to complete,” said Charlie
Papa, vice president of Facilities Management. “While this project will be disruptive, the
end result will be well worth the inconvenience.”
