On January 12, 2017, Waste Management of West Virginia, Inc., a motor carrier and public utility, filed an application for increased rates with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia containing increased rates and charges for furnishing solid waste transportation service to customers in eleven WV counties.
The proposed increase could impact customers in the following counties: Barbour, Braxton, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Marion, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Webster.
They are also seeking inclusion of an extra bag charge of $1.50 per bag over six (6) 30-gallon bags.
The proposed increased rates and charges will produce approximately $1,225,693.33 annually in additional revenue, an increase of 11.42 percent.
The requested rates and charges are only a proposal and are subject to approval, denial, or modification (increases or decreases) by the Commission in its review of this application. Any increase in rates will not become effective until authorized and approved by the Commission. (If a hearing is scheduled, notice will be given of the time and place of hearing.)
Anyone desiring to protest this proposed change in rates or to intervene should file a written protest or notice of intervention prior to March 3, 2017, unless the Commission, by order, specifies a different date. Failure to file a timely protest or notice of intervention may affect your rights to protest any rate increases and to participate in future proceedings in this case. All protests or requests to intervene should briefly state the reason for the protest or intervention. Requests to intervene must comply with the Commission’s rule on intervention set forth in the Commission’s Rules of Practice and Procedure. All protests and notices of intervention should be addressed to the Executive Secretary, Public Service Commission of West Virginia, P.O. Box 812, Charleston, W.Va. 25323.
