Charleston, W.Va. – Starting June 2nd, WV Secretary of State Kris Warner is joining his state counterparts nationwide to participate in the #SealReveal campaign, an initiative of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) taking place throughout the month of June. During the campaign, Secretaries of State across the nation will spotlight the unique features and rich history behind their official state seals.

According to Secretary Warner, this month-long initiative will offer a creative and educational platform to showcase West Virginia’s state seal and share its significance with citizens throughout the country.

As West Virginia’s Secretary of State, Secretary Warner serves as the keeper of the state seal. Throughout the month of June, the WV Secretary of State’s Office will highlight the distinctiveness of West Virginia’s seal in a four-week series:

Week 1 (June 2-6): A detailed description of the seal’s imagery and symbolism, explaining what it looks like and what makes it unique.

Week 2 (June 9-13): The compelling story behind the creation and adoption of the state seal.

Week 3 (June 16-20): The purpose and importance of the seal in representing West Virginia’s identity and values.

Week 4 (June 23-27): Unique lore, fun facts, and lesser-known details about the seal that add to its charm and historical richness.

“Our state seal is a powerful emblem of West Virginia’s heritage, resilience, and pride,” said Secretary Warner. “The #SealReveal campaign gives us a wonderful opportunity to educate our citizens, and the nation, about the meaning behind the symbols contained in our seal and to celebrate what makes West Virginia truly special. We look forward to sharing these stories and insights throughout the month.”

Secretary Warner invites everyone to follow along on social media using the hashtags #SealReveal and #WVStateSeal on Facebook, X or LinkedIn to engage with the weekly features that bring our state seal to life. Information will also be made available to members of the WV Press Association and the WV Broadcasters Association.

Families, students and travelers are encouraged to post photos of the state seal when they see it on buildings, documents, or signs during their travels throughout the Mountain State.

Children can participate in the #SealReveal campaign by submitting their official State Seal coloring sheet, and their creative interpretations of this historic symbol to communications@wvsos.com. The artwork will be shared on WV Secretary of State’s social media channels.

The campaign, which concludes on June 30, enables all West Virginians to interact with our state’s enduring emblem while expressing their pride in the state’s heritage and identity.
