Pierpont is proud to announce that 100% of examined students passed the American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Phlebotomy Technician exam and 100% of examined students passed the National HealthCareer Association’s (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam.

Program Coordinator Michael Waide states, “We are excited to be accredited and approved to offer a national health certification through the National HealthCareer Association and to provide all the needed courses and even the exams at Pierpont Community and Technical College. We are also excited about our partnership with American Medical Technologists (AMT) which allows our students to sit for the certification exam in phlebotomy.”

Since the Laboratory Assistant Program received its approval to offer these certification exams, 93% of all students who completed the exam have successfully passed the national certification exam.

According to Waide, “Holding a national certification demonstrates a student’s commitment to the health profession and patient safety, both standards that employers prefer if not require, and give students a competitive edge in job searching and advancement opportunities!”

Hospitals, laboratories and other employers have an increasing demand for phlebotomists. Most seek, and many require, a professional certification. With a RPT or CPT certification, students will have the credentials they need to set themselves apart from other applicants as they embark on a rewarding healthcare career. As more employers require phlebotomy certifications, a RPT or CPT credential after a student’s name will help improve their marketability in a growing and rewarding field.

Waide continued, “Phlebotomy Technicians are critical team members at hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and blood donor centers. As advancements in medical technology rise, it’s an especially exciting time to begin a career in this thriving field. Earning your Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) certification from NHA or your Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) from the American Medical Technologists can give employers confidence in your skills and abilities. Set yourself up for success and reach your career goals in the rewarding healthcare industry.”
The Program admits students every semester with classes beginning in August and January. For more information, visit www.pierpont.edu and select “Learn More” at the bottom of the webpage!
