Dann Minnix, 82, of Shinnston passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his home. He was born January 20, 1941 in Keyser, WV a son of the late J.C. Minnix and Oreon Olivia Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Connie Harvey Minnix, whom he married October 10, 1959.
He is also survived by his four children, Danny Minnix and his wife Debbi; Cheryl Carey and her husband Mike; Kim Collins and her husband Boone; Tracy Dragoo and her husband Aaron; 12 grandchildren, Duke Minnix; Megan Minnix and her fiancé Arden Fox; Logan Minnix and his partner Cameron Lewis; Chris Carey and his wife Erica; Chelsy Smith and her husband Wellington; Craig Carey; Chelby Dyer and her husband Nick; Brad Bennett and his wife Ashley; J.J. Kearns; Shana Skidmore and her husband Kevin; Josh Sabala; Corey Sabala and her fiancé Nolan Zirkle; his great-grandchildren, Emily Skidmore who was raised by Dann and Connie; Jaden, Addison, Ryker, and Marleigh Minnix; Caden and Cameron Carey; Sloane and Savannah Smith; Grace and Grant Dyer; Connor and Emma Bennett; James, Hunter, and Karter Kearns; Kylin Skidmore and her companion Cameron Parks; Molly Snider; Urijah and Sawyer Sabala; Mallory, Ryan and Roman Skinner; two great-great-grandsons, Jax Boley and Hudson Parks. He is also survived by his step-brother, David Hillyard and his wife Rosie and their family and his brother in law, Steve Durst and his wife Glenna; and his nephew, Matt Durst.
In addition to his parents, Dann was preceded in death by his step-mother, Carolyn Minnix; his sister, Sharon Minnix; his father and mother-in- law, Curley and Polly Harvey; his sister-in-law, Rita Durst; and his great-granddaughter, Angel Bennett.
In 1958, Dann graduated from Lumberport High School and went on to attend Potomac State College. He was a 50-year member of the St. Johns Lodge No.24 A.F. and A.M. of Shinnston. Dann was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg. For many years, Dann was an active member of the Shinnston Volunteer Fire Department where he retired as a Captain. He also taught confined space and rope rescue classes around the tri-state area. He was the first president of the Lincoln Athletic Boosters where he served on the committee to build the new fieldhouse at Stydahar field. Dann was vice-president of Commercial Hydraulics and several other coal related businesses. Dann also served as a board member of the First United Methodist Church of Shinnston.
Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Wednesday from 1-8pm and on Thursday from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm. Rev. Michael Burge will officiate the service. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Mausoleum. Firefighter funeral honors will be accorded by the Shinnston Volunteer Fire Department.
