Tee It Up!
By Bill Nestor
This week’s edition of Tee It Up provided a trip down south to Mullens, West Virginia to Twin GFalls State Park. There are various activities, including 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, all of which are precursors for the 18-hole golf course.
Twin falls is located a half an hour outside of Beckley and is a doable day trip. A 47 room lodge located high on a mountain top with an indoor pool, hot tub, and a 24 hour fitness center and 14 secluded cabins stay and play packages, however, are an excellent choice if you are looking for a multi-round excursion.
Twin Falls is a par 71 ranging nearly 6,400 yards. There are multiple tees available, providing a fun, yet challenging round for golfers of all skill levels. Twin Falls was originally a nine hole course that was built in the 1960s, since then there have been several improvements, most recently the addition of a brand new pro shop.
Water comes into play on several holes, punishing rough can be found on each and every hole, and elevator changes on tee slopes and greens provide teeth to the tract. There is plenty of character found at Twin Falls as well. There are a pair of covered bridges that golfers travel through during their round that are reminiscent of that drives through in Phillippi. Also, Twin Falls is home to one of only a few peninsula greens found in West Virginia.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and their efforts are seen in the conditions of the course. It’s a perfect time to make a trip to Twin Falls. Don’t let the summer pass you by without making a plan to head south to this diamond in the rough.
