Joyce Elaine Byrne Sturm was born to the late Fred Jr and Lorraine Bessie Byrne (Porter) in Carolina, WV on April 6, 1948. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She graduated from Shinnston High School, volunteered in the library at Emmanuel Christian School, worked at Casey’s Family Restaurant, but was proudest to be called mom by three beautiful sons.

Joyce was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend and fellow

Shinnston High School graduate, Richard Douglas “Doug” Sturm, on October 13, 1965, in

Enterprise, WV. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom who taught her sons with patience,

discipline, and humility. She packed their lunches, drove them to baseball practices and games, and took them on family trips to the Outer Banks, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Tampa, FL.

Joyce was a natural nurturer at heart as she cared for family and friends in any capacity

needed. She served at Ownings Baptist Church where she was a member and provided her

time and talents where needed. Joyce was well-known in her community, offered a big smile, and knew someone everywhere she went. Joyce went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2024. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.

Joyce is survived by her brothers Barry Byrne and wife Judy Byrne (Nuzum) of Sebring, FL, and Bruce Byrne of Bensalem, PA; her sons Gregory Scott Sturm and wife Chrissie Sturm (Faber) of Mount Clare, WV, Matthew Todd Sturm and wife Virginia of Oakland, CA, and Jeffrey Douglas Sturm and wife Jennifer of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren Megan Sturm, Lacey Sturm, Ryley Sturm, Simon Sturm, Emmett Sturm, Justin Sturm, and Jayden Sturm; and her great-grandchildren Sophie Sturm, Connor Sturm and Waylon Sturm; several nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Misty McDougal.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Douglas Sturm; sister Beverly Ann Byrne; granddaughter Jenna Louise Sturm; and her parents Fred Jr. and Lorraine Bessie Byrne (Porter).

The family will receive friends at Harmer Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 4:00PM- 8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00AM with Pastors Ron Johnson and Chris Byrne officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Enterprise.
