Steve Strait, Representative of Modern Woodman of America, recently presented James S.
Jarrett, of Shinnston, WV the coveted “Home Town Hero” designation. This award is given to a
few citizens around the United States for outstanding service to their community or region.
The award recognizes life long service to the communities that they represent. A proclamation
award was presented to Jim, along with a check which will be presented in his honor to a charity
of his choice. Shinnston Mayor Rodney Strait joined in the presentation.
Jim Jarrett truly reflects the values that are set for this designation. Jim and his wife, Nancy,
relocated to Shinnston in the late 1960’s from Charleston, WV, and the area has been blessed
with his commitment to Public Service from that time. He has had a decorated career as a
Certified Medical Representative for Pfizer Labs and has dedicated numerous hours and days as
a volunteer to make Shinnston, Harrison County and West Virginia a better place to live.
During those years of service, Jim has provided the leadership to create one of the finest
Emergency Service systems, Fire Service and 9ll Communications systems in the United States.
Many emergency Service providers from around the United States and Canada have emulated
the systems of Harrison County, WV. to modernize their respective systems. The current 9LL
Communication Headquarters for Harrison County has been named in his honor. He has given
numerous hours as a Volunteer Firefighter with Shinnston Fire Department and as a training
instructor for West Virginia University and a “volunteer WV State Fire Marshal, in charge of
Hazardous Materials lncidents for Northern WV. He has created many of the fire service programs that are being taught today.
Modern Woodman of America, along with the citizens of this area, congratulate James S. Jarrett
with a, well deserved, “Home Town Hero” designation as his accomplishments and dedication
to the community which he served. He is truly a “Home Town Hero”.
