Betty J. Deems, 101, of Shinnston, passed away on September 9. 2024. She was born on November 3, 1922, in Mongonah, a daughter to the late Clayton and Stanley Campbell. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Harold R. Deems; son James A. Deems; Brothers Clayton, Howard, and James Campbell; sisters Judith Huffman and Nancy Currey; granddaughter-in-law Lisa Deems; and great-grandson James (Jimmy) Deems.

She is survived by her sister. Doris Saffer of VA; children, son Paul F. Deems and wife Barbara of Shinnston; daughter Deborah K. Loss and husband Donald of Adamsville; daughter-in-law Melody A. Deems of St. Clairsville, OH; grandchildren James (Jay) R. Deems, Shawn R. Martin of Shinnston, Stacy L. Gola and husband Dominick of Pittsburgh, PA, Benjamin A. Loss and wife Bethanie of Adamsville, Christa C. Kwiatkowski and husband Adam of Bridgeport, Jeremy R. Deems of St. Clairsville, OH, and Brittney Deems of St. Clairsville, OH; great-grandchildren Matthew Green, Becky Deems, Ethan Gola, Jared Gola, Gracelyn Gola, Kaylie Kwiatkowski, Vayda Loss, Chloe Loss, Josie Loss, Justin Schulte, Andrew Schulte,  Aiden Deems, Gavin, Oliver, and Sophia, grandchildren of Melody Deems.  She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren Errolynne, Maggie, Aubrey, Chris, Liam, and Noah.

Betty graduated from Shinnston High School and attended Fairmont State College. She worked at Toggery, Bank of Shinnston, and WesBanco, where she was the head teller. She was a faithful servant and lifelong member of the Coon’s Run Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, church clerk, and belonged to the American Baptist Women’s Group.

She enjoyed going to church, spending time with her family, lawn work, flowers, cooking, crocheting, camping, and being a caregiver for her husband. Betty also loved watching the Mountaineers play.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 2:00PM-8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00AM with Pastor Orville Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
