Patricia Ann “Patty” Romeo Joseph Merico, of Shinnston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on March 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on October 25, 1935, in Shinnston, she was the daughter of the late Rocco Romeo and Julia Nicolette Romeo.
A devoted Catholic, Patty was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Shinnston, WV. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and a deep sense of community.
Patty was preceded in death by her beloved son, Ricky Ray Joseph, and her devoted husband of 45 years, Bernard Joseph. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Frank Merico. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters: Frank (Vera) Romeo, Cora “Coke” (Whitey) Echard, John Romeo, Mary (Tom) Clifton, Sam Romeo, Guy (Anna) Romeo, Ron “Hawk” Romeo, and Rocco “Junior” (Adeline) Romeo, one sister-In-Law, Ruth (Ernie) Serafini and 3 brothers-in-law, Raymond, James and William Joseph.
She will be deeply missed by her loving daughter, Lisa DeMarco, and son-in-law, Sam DeMarco. She was known as “Nanny” to her cherished grandchildren: Zach (Lindsey Florence) DeMarco, Kylea (Curt) Radcliff, Kendal DeMarco, Garth (Victoria) Joseph, and Lucas Joseph.
Perhaps the only thing she loved more than being a grandmother was being a great-grandmother to Cole and Collins Radcliff, and Abriana, Kasen, Emorie, and Daniel Ricky
Joseph. Her family was her most prized possession, and nothing brought her more joy than seeing her “babies.”
She is also survived by her brother, James (Jackie) Romeo of Florida; sister-in-law Sandra Romeo of South Carolina; her very special niece, Dana Echard, who took excellent care of her; many beloved nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Tracy; and many honorary grandkids who were blessed to be loved by her.
Family was everything to Patty, and one of her greatest joys was cooking for those she loved. She was best known for her homemade pizza and what many would call the best lasagna in the world. When her grandkids were growing up, she could always be found in the yard, video camera attached to her shoulder, capturing every special moment. She was their biggest fan and loudest cheerleader, always celebrating their accomplishments with pride.
Patty worked at Maidenform and Eagle Convex in Clarksburg for many years, where she formed lifelong friendships that became like family.
Her love, faith, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
