We can positively announce that summer is on its way. We now have longer days and the daylight hours seem to stretch from 6 o’clock in the morning to 7 o’clock in the evening. For us older folks this presents a problem for us to fill our daylight hours. I like to fill my time reading. I know that lot of people will take the position that they read from their iPads. I am sure that this is OK but I am from the old school and I like to have an actual book in my hands. I can’t tell you exactly why I have to have this, but it seems that part of my enjoyment in reading is actually having the book in my hands. perhaps you all might say that I am from the old school and I would probably have to agree with you. I find great pleasure in reading and I enjoy different types of books. I truly enjoy reading novels about life.
This past week I made a visit to the Clarksburg library and I got two books to bring home. Once again, as many of you know, Danielle Steele is my favorite Author. The current book that I just completed reading is Far From Home. It was an enjoyable book as it was about characters who were in Europe during the war. A part of the book was about the treatment of Jewish people by Hitler during the war. Although this was a novel, I found much of the story to be true about the treatment of Jews. There was more to the story than the Holocaust and I highly recommend this book to. Individuals looking for a good novel. I just got a call from the library that her latest novel is in and they are holding it for me to pick up. I so look forward to curling up with this book to pass away the evening.
The next book I finished this week was World’s Fair Quilt by JenniferChiavrrini . It took me a while to get interested in this book, but once I got into it, I couldn’t set it down. This book is written in sort of a timeline and one chapter will be in the present And the and the next chapter will be in the past. It seems that this was the only way that the story could be told as the title suggest. The book is about two sisters who enter a quilt contest. One chapter will tell about their quilting project and the next chapter. Will talk about the current situation of their family. I had to read this novel in a quiet situation as there were several main characters and at times I forgot who was who. I master this by writing down a character when it is introduced in the novel. Since our granny Queen was a quilter, I enjoyed reading about the different items that the quilters used to put a quilt together. Since I had been subjected to actual quilting, I felt I understood the action of the characters as they put together their quilts. There is also more to the story as the family actually owns an apple farm.
I do not know what your reading habits are, but as for me once I start reading a book I do not want to put it down. I have been known to start reading a novel at 7 o’clock in the evening and continue reading until I have finished :the book. Many of my friends start a book and will read for an hour or so put the book down and pick it up the next evening. This is fine, but if I do this, I have to go back and refresh my memory as to who the characters are. Maybe this is telling me something, but I still, even at the age of 85 enjoy reading a good book.
A report on my garden finds my basil, and my flowers doing great. This past week I did plant four tomato plants and four pepper plants in containers on my patio. My flowers are so beautiful and I so enjoy sitting on my patio and looking at them. They bring me a lot of pleasure. I invite you to stop by the Clarksburg Farmers market to pick up your plants. Those that I have purchased are so healthy and do great in my containers. The market is open every Saturday from 9 o’clock to 1 o’clock. The market is located in Farmer’s Supply parking lot at East Point.
Grab a good book, fix yourself, a big glass of cold beverage, and go to your patio to enjoy a good read. Take care, stay healthy, and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
