Margaret Suzanne Martin, born March 14, 1949 to Robert “Lefty” and Alvenia “Venie” Hutchinson in Shinnston, West Virginia.
She was Ms. Spartan and graduate of Shinnston High School, Class of ’67.
She went on to attend Alderson Broadus Baptist College from ’67-’69.
She married Melvin “Mel” Martin, son of Charles “Buck” and Blanche Martin of Terra Alta, WV, on August 23, 1969.
She graduated in ’71 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
Upon graduation she worked briefly as a Social Worker.
She continued her education while residing in Germany and raising her three children, to obtain a Masters Degree from the University of Maryland.
The majority of her adult life, she graciously accompanied her husband as they served our country in the US Air Force for 24 years.
In addition to being a loving wife and dedicated mother, she was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a positive and encouraging presence to family and friends and touched a lot of little lives, teaching elementary school for nearly 25 yrs. She taught in both public and Christian schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, and Virginia, and was a substitute in West Virginia.
She enjoyed playing the piano, visiting with friends, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Melvin Martin; their son and daughter-in-law: Philip and Angie Martin of Bridgeport; daughter and son-in-law: Melanie and Victor Anton of Clarksburg; and son Nathan Martin of Shinnston.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Justin Martin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Katie Martin (& fiance David Giddens) of Huntsville, Alabama; Deanna Anton of Bentonville, Arkansas; David Anton (& his wife Arianna Tuffariello) of Suffolk, Virginia; Steven Anton of Shinnston, and Victoria and Natalie Anton of Clarksburg.
She was blessed to have influenced two great-grandchildren as well: Angelina Weiser and Oaklyn Anton.
She is also survived by many more family and friends that love her dearly and will treasure her memory.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston from 2-8pm, Thursday, where funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, November 21, with Pastors Todd Jarmon and Fred Hawkins officiating.
