Tips offered for May include the following: Tips for Fishing Heavy Cover. A mistake a lot of fishermen make when flipping and pitching is dropping the bait on the outside edge of the structure or cover, and that spooks any resident bass. Instead, drop it right at the base. Most fishermen naturally don’t want to get hung up, but you have to get over that if you are going to improve your flipping and pitching skills and begin catching bass in heavy cover. Most of the time you will find that the thickest spots are holding the biggest fish, so this is where you should put your first flip or pitch. Practice flipping and pitching at a target around your house so when you are on the water you have the confidence you need to put your lure where you need to. Then you won’t have to worry about getting hung up as much. Besides, you aren’t fishing where you can catch big fish if you aren’t losing a few lures. For more tips, go to basspro.com.
