That second Sunday Of May has passed and with it the official Mother’s Day.  In my opinion every day should be Mothers Day. I often think about mothers.  It is one thing we all have in common, a mother.  None of us got here without one.

Lately there is much light being shed on grandmothers who are parenting their grandchildren in the absence of the parents.  I spend many hours thinking about the challenge this presents to that grandmother.  I love being a grandmother but I shiver to think that I would have the 24 hour care that a new mother faces.  This requires 24 hour care.  The formula, the diapers, the sleepless nights.  This is the woman. that deserves Mothers Day every day.

Next there is the, modern mother.  The woman who gets up every morning and goes out into the work world. First she must get her child ready for its day while getting herself ready to meet the challenges of her job.  Most households these days require that both parents work so the burdens of raising a child becomes harder.  Of course, the husband is there to share the care of the child, but the:mother does most of the planning.  This woman deserves Mothers Day every day.

Have you ever thought of how many hugs and kisses your mother gave you? Can you remember the safety you felt when cuddled up in your Mothers arms?  Kisses and hugs from your mother seems to be a God given trait.  Throughout your life you will receive:many hugs and kisses but none will ever compare to those of your mother.

As we get older we reflect more and more on our mothers, especially if they are no longer with us.  Like it or not there comes the day when we look into the mirror and our mother is looking back at us.  There comes the day that all that we are we owe to our mothers.

I know that as a mother the older we get, our children have to adopt a different approach on how to handle us, So what if she talks to loud, wears too much perfume forgets names and calls at the most inconvenient times, I also know as a daughter I wish I had just one more chance with my: mother.  I so often think about my mother and all the sacrifices she made for me.  I smell those delicious dishes as she prepared meals for us coming from the kitchen.

I remember sitting on a blanket in the back yard with her as she found four leaf clovers for me and my sister for good luck.  I remember all the pajama parties she planned for me and my friends and the list goes on..  if you have never taken the time to remember, do it today.  Search deep for all those wonderful memories. Share them with your mother while you still can and be sure to give her a big hug and a kiss.  Remember every day should be Mother’s Day. I,have a great grandson who is three weeks old and sons who are 61 years old and a lifetime of mothering that is the reason for my being.

Enjoy Spring, stay healthy, take care and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
