It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student-athletes. Each week we review the performances of the athletes from the six schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.
The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal’s Athlete of the Week award is an avenue to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.

The Harrison County athletes in the spotlight this week are Lincoln’s Brogan Sampson and RCB’s Torrin Strawderman.
Cougar softball player Brogan Sampson was the only player to have multi-hit efforts in all three Lincoln wins this past week. Sampson was six for seven on the week with a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. She also picked up a win in the circle, helping her team to the state tournament.
Flying Eagle Torrin Strawderman came up big in the deciding victory that propelled her squad to the state tournament. In the win over Lewis County, Strawderman was four of five with four RBIs and two runs scored.
