It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student athletes.

Each week we will take a look back at the performances of the girls and boys from the six high schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.  The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal Athletes of the Week is an avenue that is used to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.

This past week’s winners were South Harrison’s Jenna Montgomery and Lincoln’s Chase Riley.

Hawk basketball player Jenna Montgomery led her team to a 3-1 record this past week including an opening round win in sectional play over Notre Dame.  Montgomery scored a total of 64 points to lead South Harrison in that category this week.

Cougar hoopster Chase Riley took the lid off of the basket this past week in a pair of contests.  Riley scored 26 against Grafton and followed that effort with 31 points against Sissonville on senior night in Shinnston.

Congratulations to South Harrison’s Jenna Montgomery and Lincoln’s Chase Riley for being named the Shinnston News and Harrison County Journal’s Athletes of the Week!
