It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student-athletes. Each week we review the performances of the athletes from the six schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.
The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal’s Athlete of the Week award is an avenue to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.

The Harrison County athletes in the spotlight this week are Lincoln’s Eryn Ashcraft and Robert C. Byrd’s Junior Smith.
Cougar soccer standout Eryn Ashcraft had a week to remember a couple weeks ago. The uber talented senior led her squad to wins over Grafton, Elkins, and Berkeley Springs. She had a pair of goals to go with six assists against the Bearcats, five assists in the victory over the Tigers and four goals against the Indians.
Flying Eagle senior Junior Smith set a school record by starting the season with three consecutive 100-yard-plus games helping his team to a 3-0 start. Smith now has 19 catches for 376 yards and four touchdowns on the season.
