In the picture above, ladies in the Civil War garb of yesterday mingle with today’s visitors during a previous Reunion weekend.

To pull off the June 1-4, 2017 commemoration of the First Land Battle of the Civil War fought on the Main Street of Philippi, VA on June 3, 1861, a small group of volunteers spends a year in planning prior to the actual weekend.

The Blue & Gray Reunion Committee is open to all who are interested in continuing the commemoration which gives Philippi, WV its unique place in both WV and US history. “Maintaining a balance of a mixture of yesterday and today helps us focus as we plan for the 28th Annual Blue & Gray Reunion,” says a Reunion Committee spokesperson.

The Committee spokesperson says anyone wanting to join in the planning and conducting of this year’s Reunion weekend is invited to attend the monthly meetings that take place on the third Wednesday of each month in the Philippi City Hall at 7:00 pm.  This month’s meeting is Wednesday, March 15.  For further information contact Reunion chairperson Ed Larry at 304-457-3773 or frank.larry45@gmail.com
