David Tartell, 85, of Fairmont, passed away on January 7, 2024. He was born on July 25, 1938, in Monongah, a son to the late Lee Tartell and Josephine (Monell) Tartell. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Delores (DeMary) Tartell, whom he married on April 19, 1969; brother-in-law James Shultz; nephew James Shultz Jr.; brother Louis (Helen) Tartell; nephew Ronnie Griffin; sister Elda (Stanley) Sharpe; nephew Craig Sharpe; brothers Eugene and Phillip Tartell; sister Christina Arnett; niece Lisa Arnett; sister Lorraine (Walt) Meredith; brother-in-law John D. DeMary; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harvey (Norma Jean) Hammons.

David is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Shultz; nephews Greg Shultz, Gary Shultz, Robert Tartell, Kevin Sharpe, Eugene Tartell II, Joe Tartell, John Arnett, Jim Arnett, Mark DeMary, John M. DeMary, and James Hammons; nieces Debra Matthews, Linda Pugh, Helen Roberts, Joni Kollmer, Jennifer Miller, and Ann Aunins; and sisters-in-law Helena Tartell and Kathryn DeMary.

David graduated from Monongah High School in 1956 and Fairmont State College in 1961. He served in the US Army and Reserves. He was the Athletic Director for the Dayton Boys Club from 1964-1969, worked for DeMary Brothers Transfer, and later became owner in 1972, and was owner of D & D Properties until his retirement in 2003. David was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah. In addition to his lifelong dedication to community service, David’s passion was his family, he was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, traveling, football, and basketball (he played both football and basketball for Monongah High).

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers Shirley Moorehead, Connie Hilling, Misty Hoover, Midge Wetzel, Melissa White and Carie Watkins.

Friends will be received at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah from 4-8 PM, Friday. Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, with Father Romeo Bacalso as Celebrant, and assisted by Deacon David Lester. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah, WV in David’s memory.
