Enhances Women’s Cardiac Recovery Efforts for American Heart Month 2026

BRIDGEPORT, WV – WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) is highlighting its commitment to women’s cardiovascular health this February in observance of American Heart Month and the Go Red for Women movement. As heart disease remains the leading cause of death among women, UHC’s nationally certified Cardiac Rehabilitation department is focusing on specialized recovery plans designed to help patients regain strength and prevent future cardiac events.

The UHC Cardiac Rehab program, located on the first floor of the hospital in Bridgeport, provides a comprehensive 12-week outpatient program. This phase two recovery process combines monitored exercise with education on nutrition and risk factor modification, led by a team of registered nurses and exercise physiologists.

“Heart disease is a progressive disease, so you might get some new pipes in there with your bypass or open up one with your stent, but if you continue to live an unhealthy lifestyle, those can clog up and you’re going to have more problems. We want to eliminate that,” said Angelina Davis, EP, MS, manager of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab at UHC.

In support of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign, UHC staff will participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 6, 2026, to raise awareness for the unique cardiovascular risks faced by women. Additionally, Cardiac Rehab will host informational displays for Heart Month at the following locations:

• The Bridge Sports Complex: February 10, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

• Meadowbrook Mall: February 17, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
