From classroom supplies to safe buildings, levy funding supports students in every school
CLARKSBURG – As Harrison County Schools enters budget season, the Board of Education is reminding the community how the excess levy continues to support students across the county.
A clear example is classroom supplies.
In many nearby counties, families are asked to buy pencils, crayons, notebooks, and other basic materials. In Harrison County, core classroom needs are met for students through levy funding. The levy pays for textbooks, instructional materials, classroom equipment, and student technology for every child from Pre-K through Grade 12.
Each year, more than $2.2 million supports these classroom essentials. This helps make sure every student starts school with the tools they need, regardless of family income.

Beyond classroom materials, the levy also helps maintain safe and updated school facilities. From 2024 through 2026 to date, more than $12.3 million has been invested in facility upgrades across the county.
These improvements include roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, secure entrances, parking lot paving, and gym floor refinishing.
The levy also supplements the district’s operating budget to support staff salaries and benefits. Stable staffing helps maintain strong instructional programs and appropriate teacher-student ratios.
“The excess levy allows us to meet student needs every single day,” said a Harrison County Schools spokesperson. “It ensures students have the materials, support, and safe spaces they need to focus on learning.”
