This coming Sunday, September 27 at three o’clock, the Fairmont Chamber Music Society welcomes the Tekalli Duo. This will kick off a series of performances going into 2027. Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church will host the event.
Suliman Tekalli and his sister Dr. Jamila Tekalli Hanner make up the performing duo. Tekalli studied at the famous Juilliard School in New York City, as well as the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Yale School of Music. Dr. Hanner earned a doctorate from the University of Miami and serves on the faculty at Levine Music.
Their ethnic background in the culture of Libya and Japan brings added color to their performances of Western classical standards as well as contemporary compositions by Japanese and North African artists and their own original works and interpretations.
Mr. Tekalli as a soloist and recitalist earned top prize in the Seoul International Music Competition in South Korea, first prize in the Blount National String Competition, and other laurels from Japan, Mexico, and elsewhere.
Dr. Hanner earned a spot as a finalist in the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition, first place in the MTNA Steinway Collegiate International Piano Competition and a number of other accolades.
The duo commenced creating music together as children and have performed as a pair ever since.
Next up, Frisson Trio d’Anches will perform on November 8 at three o’clock in the afternoon. The second half of the season will commence on February 21 with the Summit Piano Trio.
