FAIRMONT, WV – Fairmont State University prepares to welcome first-time freshmen and transfer students to campus for orientation, according to a news release.

Over the summer, new students will have to opportunity to attend one of several orientation sessions. Some orientation sessions will be open to students of any major, but college-specific orientation sessions will also be available for those interested.

During the on-campus sessions, students will tour campus and residence halls, obtain their student ID cards, meet with advisors to schedule courses for the fall semester and more.

“Orientation gives incoming Falcons an opportunity to get acclimated to campus before their first day of classes,” said Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Student Life, Alicia Kalka. “We want our new students to have all the tools they need so that they can feel confident starting their academic journey at Fairmont State.”

The orientation dates, both college-specific and non-college specific will take place as follows:

Non-College specific orientation dates

  • April 22
  • June 21
  • July 12 (open to all majors and Datha and Gene Smith students)
  • July 15
  • August 9
  • August 16 (early move-in option available for this date)

College-specific orientation dates

  • June 6 – College of Nursing and Academic Pathways
  • June 7 – College of Education, Health & Human Performance and College of Liberal Arts
  • June 8 – College of Business & Aviation and College of Science & Technology

“We are thrilled to welcome the newest class of Falcons to campus and provide them with all the resources Fairmont State has to offer,” said Vice President of Student Success, Ken Fettig. “Orientation is an essential part of a student’s academic journey and allows us to assist our incoming students in succeeding.”

Those who register and attend an orientation session will also have the opportunity to win a one-time $1,000 scholarship for their first academic year ($500 per semester) at Fairmont State University. There will be one randomly chosen winner per orientation session and the winner must be present to receive the scholarship.
