George Stephen Chenoweth

George Stephen Chenoweth, Sr. of Koon’s Run passed into the Lord’s arms on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.  He was born at Francis Mines on April 6, 1942, a son of the late Tulley Grey Chenoweth and Alice Elizabeth Soles Chenoweth.

He had two brothers, Grey (Bub) Junior Chenoweth and William (Each)Carl Chenoweth and a sister, Betty Jean Stahl, and grandson, Jeremy Schoonover, who all passed before him.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Martin Chenoweth, Koon’s Run Road; sister-in-law Sue Carpenter and Helen Chenoweth; and brother-in-law Herb Robinson; his children, George Stephen Chenoweth, Jr. (Gail) of Cresaptown, Md, Martha Marie Schoonover (Joe), Moorefield, WV, Connie Moyer (Mark), Judy McCoy, Charles Donald (Bim) Martin, Jr., (Kay), Patty Edwards (Donald) and Debbie Canfield (Mark); 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

George worked at Thompson’s Hardware in Worthington and on a Dairy Farm before going to the mines.  He worked for various small mines before going to Consol at Robinson Run Mine #95.  He retired after 43 years as a miner.  

He enjoyed having horses, working in his wood shop, going fishing with his buddy Dave, growing flowers and plants, going to church when able and singing and playing gospel songs on his guitar. He also enjoyed watching groundhogs out the window.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St., Shinnston from 1-8 Tuesday and 1-8 Wednesday.  A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 13, 2024 with Pastor Robert Tennant officiating.  Interment will follow at Middleville Cemetery.  A service of Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston
