Charleston, W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey today announced a nearly $2 million contribution from a federal matching appropriation in the Governor’s Civil Contingency Fund to support completion of a critical new taxiway project at the North Central West Virginia Airport in Bridgeport. The total cost of the taxiway project is approximately $5 million and is now 98 percent complete. This final round of funding will bring the project across the finish line.
“The new taxiway will connect our communities to expand air service, support economic development, and ensure the success of the airport’s new terminal,” said Governor Morrisey. “This is a strategic investment in jobs, tourism, and the future of our state.”
The new taxiway will connect the runway to the airport’s new $80 million terminal facility, which will allow for expanded commercial air service. The airport currently provides commercial service through Contour Airlines and Allegiant Air. In April, the airport will further expand its offerings with the addition of service from United Airlines’ SkyWest.
“Completing this taxiway project is more than a construction milestone, it’s a strategic investment in our region’s future,” said Deputy Airport Director Shawn Long. “It unlocks the full potential of our new terminal and positions our airport for long-term growth. We are especially grateful to Governor Morrisey for his leadership and support in helping make this project possible.”
The North Central West Virginia Airport is a public airport in Bridgeport, West Virginia, operated by the Benedum Airport Authority and served by commercial airlines. SkyWest Airlines dba United Express will offer daily service to Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles this spring, and Allegiant offers flights to Orlando/Sanford, Tampa/St. Pete, Myrtle Beach, and Destin-Fort Walton Beach.
