CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s service members have answered the call of duty with extraordinary valor, and now Governor Patrick Morrisey is calling on veterans, service members, and military families across the Mountain State to help establish a home for their legacy. Governor Morrisey announced today that the updated draft rules for the West Virginia Military Hall of Fame are now open for public comment, marking the final stretch to officially honoring the state’s military legends.
“I want to hear from people about veterans in their family and the stories of the gifts they have provided their communities, their state, and the nation,” said Governor Morrisey. “We should always be on the lookout to honor veterans and this comment period provides us with that opportunity.”
Members of the military community, veterans’ advocacy groups, and patriotic citizens across the state are urged to make their voices heard by reviewing and submitting feedback on the proposed regulations through Sept. 11, 2026.
Spearheaded by Governor Morrisey, First Lady Denise Morrisey, and State Senator Brian Helton, the administration published the revised draft rules on August 12, 2026, creating a clear pathway to celebrate military service and continued community impact.
The newly published regulations are seeking comments so that the state may establish the best standards for the nomination, selection, and induction processes, ensuring the program upholds the highest standards of honor while remaining open and fair to all who have served.
“Our mission is simple: recognize those whose service was not only exemplary, but incomparable,” said Ryan Kennedy, Cabinet Secretary for the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance, which administers the Hall of Fame. “We give special thanks to Governor Morrisey, First Lady Denise Morrisey, and Sen. Brian Helton for their bold leadership in establishing this honor. Now, we need the public’s insight. This is your chance to shape how West Virginia recognizes its greatest protectors for generations to come.”
