Guest Column: Experience the experience of the PSC

The Public Service Commission has solved one of the age-old dilemmas facing newcomers in applying for jobs.

You have a degree, but how do you get a job without experience?

I’m glad you asked.

The Public Service Commission wants you, and we are happy to provide you with the opportunity to gain the experience.

Are you a newly graduated lawyer jittery about entering the courtroom? We want you.

Are you a newly graduated accountant who is afraid of being shunted aside to count beans? We want you too, and you won’t be counting beans.

Are you a new engineer without field experience? The Public Service Commission is just the ticket.

Ours is the place where professionals can pick up valuable work experience to add to their resumes. And we guarantee you meaningful, practical experience in a good atmosphere.

Young lawyers sit at the table, prepare their cases and argue before the Commission. You won’t be in the second seat if you join our staff. And you won’t be chained to menial tasks in an office.

Accountants will be totting up numbers that will make a difference to thousands of ratepayers across the state. And you will not only be making the calculations, but you will be gaining valuable courtroom experience, testifying to back up your calculations.

As an engineer, you will find yourself visiting numerous water, sewer, and other utility projects across the state as you practice your craft with your hiking boots on.

Rarely are new college graduates given the opportunities you will find at the Public Service Commission. Here you go to the front of the class immediately. Here, you make real decisions that affect thousands of West Virginians.

We offer competitive wages, a good health care plan, and reasonable work hours that will not keep you at the grindstone 16 hours a day, seven days a week. We want you to work, but we want you to enjoy your off time, too.

Think about it. Give us some time. If you don’t like it, try something else. But few other offices will give you as much practical experience as quickly as the Public Service Commission. We’re always looking for professionals. Just give us a call. 304-340-0300. Experience the experience.
